Winchester Cathedral and Christmas Market

The prospect of wet weather did not deter us on our trip to Winchester to enjoy the calm and choral Cathedral and the many stalls of the Christmas Market.

The Cathedral was a highlight for many and we were grateful for the generosity of the Deanery for our free entry and guided tour.

Amongst the centuries old features of the Cathedral we were delighted to encounter the choir and orchestra rehearsing for the Christmas concerts.

Hearing Handel’s the Messiah sung beautifully in an acoustic masterpiece like the cathedral was breathtaking.

And, despite the dire weather warnings, the rains held off and the lights and bustle of the High Street and the many stalls selling Christmas goodies and gifts were a pleasure to stroll in.

We were back safe in Shaftesbury by 8.00pm and thanked Tina of Vale Coaches for her skilful driving and care for her passengers.

Our trips provide an opportunity for the community of refugees to be together, share experiences and build memories whilst away from home.

In this case it was an earlier taste of Christmas too, one which for many will be spent apart from family for a third year.
