A Quiz Night in July
At the end of July, on a Saturday in Motcombe Village Hall our community of quizzers joined us for another evening of fun and feasting on Syrian food.
The food was prepared by Ammar and Samar of The Hammoud's’ Kitchen in Shaftesbury. It was a glorious buffet of Middle Eastern goodness much appreciated by the 60 plus participants.
Food came after the first 40 questions which were based on the themes of couples and weddings, July being the busiest month of the year for this activity! After these rounds there were no teams scoring 60 (100%), but there were 7 teams in the 50’s.

The music quiz was based on the origins of artists from the 70’s to 2020’s and then there was a tense and exciting practical task based on the household skill of pegging out the washing. The team ‘Hot and Bothered’ excelled here with 36.34 secs.
It remained close for the final rounds of identifying famous cyclists, solving classic riddles and assigning 10 numbers to 10 facts (probably the hardest round of the 10 in the quiz).
Things were now on a knife edge with just one point separating the teams; ‘Lost Cause’ and ‘A Mixed Bag’.
So to the last round based on which items would float or sink in a column of water, where Phil and the Blanks rose to the top with a top score of 10 points but sank with a final total of 71.
And the winners were… ‘Lost Cause’ with 113 points ‘A Mixed Bag’ with 110 and ‘Stour Rowdies’ on 108 a close third.
The winning team shared this wonderful hamper kindly donated by Roz Hanby.
Thanks to the many people and businesses who donated a huge selection of raffle prizes.
Thanks to Tom, Miles, Garry and Debbie who set the tables and chairs out in the afternoon.
Thanks once again to Jamie Randall of RandallPhotos for taking these wonderful photographs.
Thanks also to the whole team at Motcombe Memorial Hall who pulled together to help us overcome a difficult start to the evening and produced a bar. Especial thanks to Graham, Bev and Keith.
It was a lovely evening and the generosity of people contributed to The Hammouds’ Kitchen business and to our charity. We made a lot of friends and £270 towards our support activity
In addition we unexpectedly received a generous donation from the St Mary’s Stitchers who are some of our regular quizzers and it was a real act of kindness to do so.
